Buddytree is a system currently being developed to cultivate
meaningful face-to-face friendships through the use of a new type of social
networking website. Buddytree is designed to make it easier to schedule events with your
existing friends as well as to help build your face-to-face friend network through friend sharing.
Unlike other social networking websites, Buddytree will focus on quality,
not quantity when it comes to making new friends and as such,
the site will incorporate a collection of best practices from various sources.
The system is
being created in response to problems of social isolation and
which has reached
epidemic levels in many cities around the world.
The Meetup system will continue to be used to schedule
Philosophy Dinners and
Psychology Dinners events.
However, members of these groups will soon have the option to schedule their
very own PD events within their Buddytree network using this system once the
beta version has been completed.
Buddytree will also integrate with
Calopia, a cause sharing
Although this new system was inspired by Meetup and Facebook it is not designed
to compete with either of these sites.
In fact, we will continue to help promote the
Meetup system as much as we can.
The Buddytree project is being headed by Glen Brauer.
Buddytree will be free to use and will be
funded by advertisers similar to other social networking websites.
